A cooperation agreement and a MoU to establish the Cooperative European Medicines Development Course (CEMDC) a university network for jointly teaching medicine developemnt has been signed by representatives of ten universities from Central, Eastern, and Southern Europe in 2013. The CEMDC obtained a PharmaTrain Center of Excellence accreditation. The CEMDCacirceurotrades organisation is connected to the European Unionacirceurotrades Innovative Medicine Initiative (IMI) programme, while the preparatory work was carried out within the Geographical Extension working group of the IMI-funded PharmaTrain (PhT) project. Following an assessment, the programme also received prioritised funding from the European Union. The IMI-PhT selected Dr. SAtildeiexclndor Kerpel-Fronius (professor, Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy, Semmelweis University) as the Academic Leader of the Geographical Extension sub-project, while Dr. Matthias Gottwald (Vice-President of Research Policy and Collaborations, Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals) was named Industrial Co-Leader. The coordination of the CEMDC has been entrusted upon Semmelweis University in cooperation with the Governing Board formed by the CEMDC partner universities. The ten initial universities participating in the CEMDC are University of Tartu (Estonia), Semmelweis University (Hungary), Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (Lithuania), Medical University of Warsaw (Poland), University of Lisbon (Portugal), University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Targu Mures (Romania), University of Belgrade (Serbia), Comenius University of Bratislava (Slovakia), University of Ljubljana (Slovenia), Gazi University (Turkey). AGAH e.V. is a non-for-profit medical-scientific society founded in 1991 and currently has about 350 members (http://www.agah.eu/). AGAH has been accredited as scientific society with the German Association of medical-scientific societies (Arbeitsgemeinschaft der wissenschaftlichen-medizinischen Fachgesellschaften in Deutschland; http://www.awmf.org/en/scientific-societies/member-societies.html ). On a European level, AGAH is full member of the European Federation for Exploratory Medicines Development (http://www.eufemed.eu ). AGAH performs an Annual Meeting and several workshops per year and is continuously engaged in professional training activities in early medicines development (see http://www.agah.eu/infothek/) .

AGAH is striving for information, education and training of staff working in early drug development in practical terms, thus Phase I units in pharma companies, CROs and academia. It is a lively community with annual conferences,  a long-standing clinical trial management course for Phase I study nurses and monitors. With the attached training course they train the more senior staff in early drug development. The long-term goal is to at some later stage integrate this module here as the Introductory module to a Diploma course in Human Pharmacology with in total 5 more modules that will be contributed by the sister associations in France, Belgium and UK.
